A thriller that stole my sleep and surprised me again.
I am a total mood reader. I can have the most thoughtfully curated TBR list in the world, but if none of those books feel right in the moment, I will go looking for something else.
That is exactly how I ended up picking up Dating After the End of the World. I wanted another Jeneva Rose book because her writing almost always works for me, and I needed something fast, fun, and twisty.
This one delivered.
Title: Dating After the End of the World
Author: Jeneva Rose
Genre: Thriller with post-apocalyptic elements
Format read: Kindle
How I read it: Kindle Unlimited
Length: Short chapters and very bingeable
Best for: Readers who like thrillers with humor and unexpected emotional moments
This story takes place during a zombie apocalypse, which is not a genre I usually reach for.
At its core, this book is about survival, connection, and the strange relationships that form when the world falls apart. It blends thriller pacing with dark humor, surprising emotional moments, and plenty of twists.
If you like The Walking Dead, this book will absolutely work for you.
I flew through this book.
It was an easy, quick read with chapters that constantly tempted me to read just one more. That mentality completely disrupted my sleep schedule.
What surprised me most was how much I enjoyed the humor. Even with zombies and chaos everywhere, the book never took itself too seriously, which made it genuinely fun to read.
The thriller elements were classic Jeneva Rose. There were mouth-open surprises, unexpected twists, and moments where I thought I knew what was coming and was still wrong.
There were also emotional beats that caught me off guard. The dad in the story reminded me so much of my own that I ended up with tears in my eyes more than once.
The humor added a lightness that balanced the darker moments.
The pacing was fast and addictive.
The prepper storyline was convincing enough that it briefly made me consider buying extra rice and canned goods.
And the twists kept me fully engaged the entire way through.
The romance aspect felt very junior high to me.
That said, I do not think of Jeneva Rose as a romance author, so this felt more like a fun and slightly silly layer rather than a true downside. It did not take away from my overall enjoyment of the story.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Four stars. For me, a four-star rating means I enjoyed most everything about it and would likely recommend it to others. This book fits that description perfectly. It was fast, funny, surprising, and entertaining, even if the romance was not the strongest element for me.
You will probably love this if you enjoy thrillers with unexpected humor, zombie or apocalypse stories similar to The Walking Dead, and books that keep you up at night.
You might want to skip this if you are looking for a serious romance or prefer slow, reflective storytelling.
This book reminded me why I trust my reading moods. Sometimes the right book is not on your list yet. Sometimes it is the one that steals your sleep, makes you laugh during a zombie apocalypse, and sneaks up on you emotionally.

Dating After the End of the World surprised me in the best way. It pulled me into a genre I do not usually reach for and kept me there with humor, twists, and heart.
If you are looking for a quick, fun thriller that does not take itself too seriously, this one is worth picking up.
If you enjoyed this review and you love twist-heavy thrillers, you might also like my review of The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose. It is another fast-paced read with unforgettable twists and an ending that still shocked me even on a reread.

We are the Cassellius family. We craft premium personal care products from hazelnuts grown on our Wisconsin farm. Along with product development and production, we also breed and sell exclusive hazelnut genetics with the goal of supporting the establishment of 100 new orchards on farms across the Midwest.
Our small farm is a demonstration site for CPG developers and hazelnut growers where we showcase conservation methods that promote sustainable personal care products as well as responsible farming practices that will keep our soil healthy for generations.
While running the hazelnut business, we also operate a cut flower farm by filling the alleys between our young hazelnut plants with beautiful dahlias. This is another example of potential farm products that are not found in the grocery store aisles.
