A reread that left me staring at the wall.
There are some books you remember finishing, but not how you got to the end.
This was one of those.
I first read The Perfect Marriage quite a while ago and only remembered two things. 1: I could not put it down, and 2: The ending completely blindsided me.
When I decided I wanted to continue the series, I knew a reread was necessary. What I did not expect was just how gripping it would be the second time around. Even knowing the general outcome, I still flew through the pages. As I read, I slowly started recalling how things wrapped up, but there were plenty of twists I had forgotten entirely. More than once, I caught myself staring at my Kindle in genuine shock.
That combination of familiarity and surprise is complex to pull off, and this book somehow still manages to do so.

At its core, The Perfect Marriage is a story about perception. It explores what we believe about the people closest to us and how quickly those beliefs can unravel.
The story follows a successful criminal defense attorney whose husband is accused of murder. From there, it dives headfirst into marriage, power, secrets, and the uncomfortable reality that knowing someone does not always mean truly understanding them.
This is not a slow or atmospheric thriller. It is sharp, tense, and constantly shifting in ways that keep you guessing.
Even on a reread, this book completely hooked me.
I went in remembering that the ending had shocked me, and as I read, pieces of it slowly came back to me. Not fast enough to soften the impact, though. There were multiple moments where I stopped reading, stared at the page, and thought, I forgot about that.
That does not happen often. (or it does as I’m in my forgetful 40s and I just do not want to admit as such)
The pacing is relentless in the best possible way. Chapters are short and perfectly timed, which makes it dangerously easy to keep reading. The twists are layered enough that forgetting even one makes rediscovering it genuinely fun.
This was one of those reads where I kept mentally bookmarking reactions because I knew I would want to talk about it once I finished.
The unpredictability is a significant strength. Even when you think you know where the story is headed, it pivots.
The short chapters make it ideal for late-night reading or squeezing in a few pages whenever you can.
The characters live in morally gray territory, and that tension drives the entire story forward.
And the ending is truly memorable. The kind that sticks with you for years, clearly, since I still remembered the feeling long after I had forgotten the details.
If you prefer slow-burning thrillers or deeply introspective character studies, this might feel more plot-driven than emotional. This book prioritizes momentum and surprise over reflection. For me, that was exactly what I wanted, but it is worth noting.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
For me, a five-star rating means I would happily reread the book, it is an automatic recommendation to others, and it sets the bar for its genre.
This book earns that rating not just for its shock value but also for its replayability, which is rare for a thriller.
You will probably love this if you enjoy thrillers with jaw-dropping twists, stories that explore marriage and secrets, and books that are impossible to put down once you start.
You might want to skip this if you prefer slow, lyrical storytelling or need characters to be clearly good or bad.
This was one of those books I read in stolen moments. Early mornings, quiet evenings, and stretches where I promised myself I would stop at the end of the chapter and did not.
It reminded me why I love thrillers that commit fully to boldness rather than safety. It also confirmed something I already knew. Jeneva Rose is an automatic read for me.
Rereading The Perfect Marriage reminded me that the best thrillers do more than shock you once. They hold up even when you think you remember everything.
If you have read this before, I genuinely recommend picking it up again before continuing the series (hint: I just finished the sequel and OMG – but it is definitely a must to read the first book). And if you have not read it yet, be prepared to clear your schedule.
If you have already read this one, I would love to know. Did the ending get you too, or did you see it coming? And if you have a thriller that completely caught you off guard, please tell me. I am always adding to my list.
I will be sharing more single book reviews like this. Thrillers, comfort reads, and everything in between, all written as I actually experience them.

We are the Cassellius family. We craft premium personal care products from hazelnuts grown on our Wisconsin farm. Along with product development and production, we also breed and sell exclusive hazelnut genetics with the goal of supporting the establishment of 100 new orchards on farms across the Midwest.
Our small farm is a demonstration site for CPG developers and hazelnut growers where we showcase conservation methods that promote sustainable personal care products as well as responsible farming practices that will keep our soil healthy for generations.
While running the hazelnut business, we also operate a cut flower farm by filling the alleys between our young hazelnut plants with beautiful dahlias. This is another example of potential farm products that are not found in the grocery store aisles.
